REFLECTIVE | And Other Things to Count On by Debbie Hodge

Use a reflective story style to record “how it used to be.”

Debbie Hodge tells a story not of the picnic of her childhood shown in the photo, but, rather, of how picnics with extended family generally were then. What’s more she reflects on what it meant to have these events and relationships in her life.

She told the story with short but detail-packed journaling generated by the memories the photo triggered. She used motifs of farm life (wheat) and homieness (doilies).
