Use a title to point a path to deeper meaning.
Debbie Hodge’s “Received” shows her sons on her mom’s front porch with the guns passed to them after their grandfather’s death.
The obvious story is that they received these gifts, but the deeper story is of all they’ve received from their grandfather that goes much deeper: of his DNA and land and family, of the values he shared and the memories he made with them before he passed.
Debbie says, “My dad lived years beyond what we initially expected when he became ill, and we felt we received God’s grace with the gift of these added years, all of us grateful for and treasuring of our time together. Thus, the title Received is about more than the obvious receipt of physical gifts.”
