Begin your patterned paper choices by thinking about your page theme or subject. Look to see if you can find a print that concretely or abstractly ties to your subject.

Doris used color and pattern to convey BOTH the abstract theme of happiness and the more concrete theme of being outdoors.
The leaf print connects directly to the outdoor theme while the colorful polka-dots and hearts convey happiness. The colors of green, blue and yellow all reinforce these themes, as does her unstructured layering and placements.
