Choose patterns for mood and tone.
In addition to thinking about theme as you select your patterned paper, you can also consider what kind of mood you would like to evoke in the viewer.
Look especially to styling, color, value, motif, and contrast in your pattern choices.
Of her intent with this page, Kim Watson says, “I wanted to be real, speak from the heart, and use life experience to share insight and wisdom on this page, sharing the message that being a family means you are a part of something very wonderful. It means you will love and be loved for the rest of your life. No matter what.”
Her composition includes houses cut from patterned paper to trigger the final word of her title: home. The patterns she used are a mix of floral, representational, and abstract motif. The styling and the colors are “homey” through and through. The traditional styling and warm, orange-toned colors contribute to this comfortable and comforting mood.
