Tell the story of your feelings.
Doris Sander says, “The photo on this page is one of me in my mid-twenties. I remember enjoying my life, but also feeling a bit restless and wondering what the future might hold. I attempted to convey this restlessness with my design.”
Conveying a young woman’s restless spirit visually isn’t an easy task, but Doris has done it. She says, ” In the photo, I’m holding a leaf that I’m about to drop to in the creek so I can watch the current take it downstream. I wanted to emphasize the idea of the leaf moving and connect that to the idea of looking to the future.
I did this by creating a stream of embellished leaves that starts at the leaf in the photo and continues off the page. I added to the tension by having the leaf trail go from right to left which is the opposite direction from what our eyes are trained to travel.”
